Nissaki Corfu Greece , Nissaki beach Corfu ( Korfu ) Greece

corfu_greece_nissaki_beachNissaki resort is 22 kilometers (14 miles) on the north east coast of Corfu town, and the airport, with outstanding views across the sea to Albania and across the Corfu Town on a clear day.  Nissaki, which means "little island", lies sedately beneath Mountain Pantokratoras, on the road leading to the resort of Kassiopi.

This undeniably beautiful spot is the perfect hideaway for a quiet and relaxing holiday, exploring the pebbly coves that slip into the crystal blue waters and watch the sun setting over the harbour in Nissaki village.

The area has a few tavernas and local shops and the nightlife is very modest in comparison with its neighbour Barbati, and a world away from the full-on partying youth resort of Ipsos just a few miles down the coast.

Nissaki beach, or rather beaches, are small coves of sparkling white shingle, excellent for scuba-diving, with clean clear water ideal for swimmers. A favourite beach is at Skinos, several hundred metres further along the coast.

Walkers and bathers enjoy Nissaki resort for its protected and secluded position and its relatively unspoilt romantic feel despite its reputation for beauty and its popularity as a day trip destination for boats and yachts. A little effort on the coast path is rewarded with the discovery of further secluded rocky coves.

Hiring boats is a popular holiday activity, with beautiful Agni Bay a favourite destination. Nissaki has the option of visiting other much livelier resorts if charming Nissaki gets too sedate, or you are with teenagers with the mood to party.

Barbati and Kaminaki can be reached on foot and Kassiopi and Ipsos are short trips away by car. For a complete contrast you could explore some of the charming traditional Corfu villages in the surrounding hills. There are regular buses to Kassiopi to the north and to Ipsos and the fascinating capital, Corfu Town to the south.

The name Nissaki means 'little island' and although that island is now joined to the mainland, the Taverna Mitsos stands upon it overlooking the small pebbled beach. The sea is clear, clean and ideal for swimming, but the beach shelves quite steeply in places and can get busy during high season when the visiting caiques arrive.

corfu_greece_nissakiThere is a smaller beach (Skinos Beach) several hundred metres along the coast from Nissaki's main beach.  Nissaki should not be associated with the Nissaki Beach Hotel  (Krouzeri Beach) situated substantially further north along the coast.

The village of Nissaki is strung out along the coast road with several bus stops for the Corfu/Kassiopi bus. The village has numerous tavernas, supermarkets, several tourist shops and car/bike hire.  All your daily requirements  are readily available and there really is no need to leave the village if for any reason you want to stay put.

Water taxis arrive and depart from the jetty next to Mitsos taverna and the harbour throughout the day.  Try sitting with a drink, watching the coming and going.  Is there anything more relaxing?

The only toilets available are within the tavernas-not a problem if you are eating or drinking at the premises.  Public telephones  are available in various locations throughout the village.

Nissaki's  harbour was completed in  2004. Nissaki can now offer a safe and spacious mooring for your boat. The concerns about the harbour spoiling the beauty of the area have proved unfounded. The harbour wall is faced with local rock and will enhance the marine life environment.
