Agios Georgios Pagon Corfu ( Korfu ) Greece Agios Georgios Pagon is the haven, the seaside resort, of 4 communities: Pagi, Kavvadades, Afionas and Armenades. Afionas peninsular, the northern end of beautiful Aghios Georgios bay, offers a magnificent view of the whole bay and to the open Ionian sea. From the peninsula a ship-shaped island, the basis for many legends and rumours, is visible just a little off the coast. Afionas village was first inhabited during the 6th century BC but was abandoned a little later then re-inhabited again during 6th century AD by the Avars.
On the north-west edge of Afionas Cape there are excavations which were started to bring to light the Palace of King Alkinoos but instead a village dating back to the Neolithic Era was uncovered. Pagi is a traditional village with well-maintained beautiful old houses. From here a dirt road climbs up the hillside and leads to Vistona, and from there through the village of Krini to Angelokastro. Kavvadades and Armenades are two small villages tucked away in the countryside and maintain all the characteristics of typical Corfiot villages. Umbrellas and sun beds are available as well as water sports facilities. The beach also proposes some fish tavernas, and a few bars. Nearby resorts are Arillas and Agios Stefanos. A visit to the old and traditional villageS of Afionas, Armenades, Gouta and Kavadades it's worth it, as the views from the top of this place, are outstanding! There are a few hotel pools and a selection of water sports, otherwise daytime activities involve taking in the sun on the uncrowned beach or enjoying fabulous walks along the coast and the surrounding hills and villages. |
